Preventive lymphatic drainage is an important procedure to stimulate lymph flow and eliminate fluid buildup in the tissue. Its purpose is to relieve pressure on the vascular system, resolve congestion, and restore drainage through the lymphatic vessels.
Lymphatic drainage can be very helpful as a supportive measure during a fasting period, a detox cure, or as part of a dietary change. The gentle, rhythmic movements stimulate the lymphatic system, helping to more effectively remove excess fluid and metabolic waste products. This can promote the body’s natural cleansing processes and enhance overall well-being.
Especially during phases when the body is especially busy ridding itself of harmful substances through a modified diet or targeted detox regimens, preventive lymphatic drainage can help support this process. Many people report experiencing increased energy levels and an improved sense of well-being after such a treatment.
Overall, preventive lymphatic drainage can be a valuable addition to optimally support the body during fasting periods or dietary transitions and to assist its natural cleansing and relief processes.
Effect of preventive lymphatic drainage
Preventive lymphatic drainage is primarily aimed at improving lymph flow. This flow can become congested due to factors like hereditary venous weakness or be impaired by other issues, such as surgery.
Positive effects of preventive lymphatic drainage may include:
- reduction of tissue swelling
- increased mobility
- resolution of lymph congestion
- drainage of fluid through the lymphatic pathways
- softer, smoother tissue
- reduced burden on the immune system
- removal of harmful substances (detoxification)
Building on this, preventive lymphatic drainage is suitable for conditions such as migraines, rheumatism, fibrosis, bruises or sprains. Preventive lymphatic drainage can also be soothing and beneficial for cosmetic reasons. It can help reduce the appearance of cellulite and promote firmer-looking skin.
You’ll really enjoy preventive lymphatic drainage. It’s gentle, relaxing, nourishes and cares for the skin, and supports the body’s natural fluid drainage.
Note: Fluid accumulations (edema) must always first be assessed by a physician. If there are no contraindications to preventive lymphatic drainage, you’re welcome to book this treatment with me.

Procedure
The procedure for preventive lymphatic drainage is carefully structured, as the lymphatic pathways follow a fixed anatomical arrangement. The order of the steps is therefore important to achieve optimal results. Naturally, I can set individual focal points and treat certain areas more intensively and others less intensively, according to your needs.
This treatment begins with a preliminary consultation to clarify your current complaints, wishes, and desired focus areas. I take the time to discuss your symptoms, preferences, and treatment priorities with you. Meanwhile, you’ll be offered a warming or refreshing drink to optimally prepare your circulation and body for the preventive lymphatic drainage.
The private changing area is located right next to the massage table. During the treatment, you lie comfortably on the heated table, covered with towels and a blanket—this way you stay warm and can fully relax. Afterwards, only the specific area being massaged is uncovered to preserve your privacy and ensure your comfort.
Preventive lymphatic drainage is performed while lying face-up, following a fixed sequence based on the anatomical pathways of the lymph vessels. Although the order is set, I tailor individual focal points to your needs: some areas are treated more intensively, others less so—entirely according to your preference. After the treatment, you’ll enjoy a rest period of about 10 minutes, during which you can remain comfortably lying down (this time is not counted as part of the massage). Then you’ll slowly sit up and have a drink to give your circulation a moment to adjust after the massage.
In a brief post-treatment discussion, we’ll talk about how you’re feeling and whether any further measures are needed. You’ll be served a beverage that not only nicely rounds off the session but is also good for your body. It’s also very important to drink plenty of fluids at home afterward, since preventive lymphatic drainage has a draining effect.
Limits and precautions
There are certain medical conditions under which lymphatic drainage must never be used. These include:
- heart failure
- erysipelas (also known as Wundrose)
- phlebothrombosis (deep, acute thrombosis of the leg veins)
- pregnancy (first through fourth month)
- high-risk pregnancies
- Infectious diseases with high fever
Some medical conditions must be disclosed, as they only permit preventive lymphatic drainage under specific circumstances. The duration, intensity, and procedure must be applied in a way that is less taxing on the body to avoid exacerbating the issue. These include :
- thyroid dysfunctions
- chronic inflammation
- bronchial asthma
